Description
Students
will learn, practice and demonstrate file management skills. Students will
develop a data management plan that will document file storage and back-up
procedures. Students will prepare for file management audits throughout the course.

- students have network logins and password information;
- several simple files have been saved on the Internet / network for
students to download / copy.
Teaching/Learning
Strategies

Review the school network procedures and policies
(Appendix 1.3.1)
and make them aware of where they can find the school policy in the future;

Encourages student groups to assess, critique, and
understand the reasons for each of the school policies for computer usage
(the teacher
(Appendix 1.3.2) guides the discussion while students suggest revisions for any
lack of clarity);

Introduce the concepts of file storage units such
as files, folders and directories.

Create several files using a simple program such
as a text editor or word processor and save these files.
-
Demonstrate the skills of copying, pasting,
moving, renaming and deleting files and folders.

Students will practice file management skills
using a checklist
(Appendix 1.3.3) .

Present file standards and conventions
(Appendix 1.3.4)
for the course.

Students will request a skill
demonstration assessment (Appendix 1.3.5) once they have mastered the required skills.

Students will be given time to:
- reflect on their progress/
understanding/areas of concern
based on teacher/student/peer
suggestions (e.g. after test take up)
- journalize their reflections
- reflect on the work of others

- check homework correctness/completion when appropriate
- review formative quiz results

The following are ways in which the activity can be modified to accommodate
