Points to ponder...
Logging Into the Network
Changing Password
-
How often should it be changed?
-
What types of passwords should be used?
-
Who can reset your password?
Selecting Programs
Software at Home
-
If you do not have Office 2000 at home you may
have some trouble bringing your files home after working on them at school.
Please ask for help if you need to save your files in some other format.
-
Save word processor files in Microsoft Word 2000 format.
-
Save spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel 2000 format.
-
Save databases in Microsoft Access 2000
format.
-
To bring files to school E-mail,
"I-Drive", or FTP are recommended over using disks. (If you must
use disks it is recommended that you bring two copies on separate
disks. Keep the disks in different locations.)
Electronic Mail Rules
-
Mail is available to all students.
-
Students should remember that all mail is
identified by the user id of the person who sent it. The system is
electronically monitored for inappropriate messages.
-
Mail that is sent should be for good reason and
not just to “play around”. Remember that you are responsible for all
mail sent from your user id.
Resetting of Computers
Logging Out of Computers
-
Since your user id contains all your work and
represents you when you send mail you must keep it secure. Leaving the
station logged on when you leave it compromises the security of your user
id.
-
Push your chair in neatly and dispose of any
garbage at your station.
