Data Management Plan

A data management plan outlines the locations and the procedures that are associated with keeping copies of information in the form of disk files. Following a data management plan ensures that important work is protected from system crashes and failures, or simple human error such as accidentally overwriting a file.

You will file a data management plan that specifies:

• the location of files on the HTS network;

• an off-HTS network location for file back-up such as diskette, home, or other location;

• the defined daily or weekly procedure for back-up. That is, when will you do the actual backup of the files.

The success of your data management plan will be evaluated (audited) by several “sneak attacks” during the duration of the case study, in which you will be asked to demonstrate that your files are where they should be and have been copied as specified in the plan.

Your plan is due by the beginning of the class listed on the term outline.
