MLA format requires:

1. one-inch top, bottom, left, and right margins throughout the paper.
2. double-space the entire paper
3. each page must have your last name and the current page number in the top right corner (in the header). e.g. Wood 1
4. all typing should be font size 12
5. there is no separate title page
6. the first 6 lines contain this information (not double spaced)
   1. student name (at left margin)
   2. teacher name
   3. course name
   4. date
   5. this line is blank
   6. title of your work (this line is centered)

7. each paragraph is to be indented one-half inch from the left margin (first line indent)
8. explanatory notes are optional in MLA. These are used primarily to elaborate on points discussed in the paper. These can be either at the bottom of the page as a footnote or at the end of the paper as an endnote.
