Enter the date for each transaction beside the amount.
Just before you calculate the balance of the account draw a line across BOTH sides of the account.
The balance of the account will normally appear on the same side that the account appears in the accounting equation. (Expenses and Drawings will be on the Debit side.)
The Accounts Receivable - Ma account has a zero balance. Note how the balance is recorded.
